HER STORY...

Billboard-charting, internationally acclaimed, five-time Global Music Awards Medalist jazz and Americana singer/songwriter/pianist Katherine 'KOOL KAT' Farnham possesses a world-class musical heritage. Farnham studied piano with her concert pianist mother, who studied with European concert artist Madame Dayas, who studied with her parents, who studied with legendary pianist/composer Franz Liszt. She began playing and composing at the age of four. She started performing as leading lady in a play at age five and sang her first jazz vocal solo a few months later. Farnham is a prolific and electric artist who fuses musical paradigms together effortlessly, reinventing standards and bridging influences of adult contemporary, R&B, blues/roots, Latin jazz, and fusion. In a significant recognition of her 'Vintage' LP contributions, the disc was added to the prestigious jazz archives at the Mediatheque Musicale de Paris, France.

Hailed by Brazilian journalist Toninho Spessoto as "one of the top artists of our time", Farnham has worked with many renowned musicians including legendary saxophonist and Grammy winner Kirk Whalum, Latin Grammy winner Nestor Torres, and Grammy nominees Mindi Abair and Denny Jiosa. She has earned the love of fans and jazz aficionados alike with her unique and retitled single ‘My Funky Valentine’ ('Vintage' LP). Jazz Weekly says, “Farnham adds some backbeat to a clever read of a standard in ‘My Funky Valentine’ and her voice is rich and strongly confident.” Two-Time Emmy Nominee and Celebrity Radio Host Philip Silverstone captured her essence raving, “absolutely brilliant. Kool Kat is doing for jazz what Clapton did for the blues - bringing it to the mainstream.”

She returns to her theatrical roots with the first single “People, A Tribute to Barbra Streisand" featuring Two-Time Grammy Nominee Mindi Abair as Guest Artist and saxophonist. Farnham transformed Streisand’s beloved hit into a moving, lush jazz ballad, complete with world-class musicians, full string orchestra and herself on piano and vocals. “My inspiration for this version was to begin very tenderly, almost like a prayer for the forgotten and suffering people of the world. I told Mindi what I was envisioning and there were tears in her eyes. We ended up recording her solo on International Women’s Day in Los Angeles."

Farnham has had to overcome tremendous adversity to bring her music to the world. But in so doing, it has fueled a passion to create music that touches people in a universal way. It has also birthed a true humanitarian who is just as passionate about standing up for others in need. From mentoring inner city kids in Compton and Los Angeles, to providing transitional housing for the homeless, rescuing pets, supporting veterans and organizing six benefits supporting music education and ethnic unity, Farnham is a woman who consistently goes the extra mile. "Any humanitarian knows that the essence of the work really is caring for the "People", regardless of their age, gender, background, race, religion or political beliefs. My work is focused on things that unite. I don’t discuss politics on social media. This song was a cherished opportunity to integrate different sides of my artistic personality and get back to the basics of sending a message of unconditional love."

The artist's intense passion and skill have resulted in a Billboard Top 40 hit with “Necessary Groove” ('Vintage' LP), and in 2018 five music awards plus other accolades. She has won a total of five Global Music Award Medals, a Los Angeles Music Award, a Producer's Choice Honors Award for Best Female Singer/Songwriter in 25 Years (Quarter Century run of Los Angeles Music Awards), the coveted Hollywood F.A.M.E. Award for Special Achievement, Singer Songwriter, a Las Vegas Counter Culture Award for "Best Jazz Performer", a Rotary Outstanding Service Award and many others. In 2019, she's already won another three music awards.

Farnham studied music with several classical and jazz legends including Leon Fleischer at Tanglewood as well as both her parents. Her mother was a concert pianist, composer and vocal coach. Her father was a musician, arranger, scholar and conductor and toured as first trombonist with The Boston Pops. Both her parents met and worked closely with Igor Stravinsky at The Sante Fe Opera during the premiere of his works there.

Farnham has appeared on Good Morning America, NBC 6, Telemundo and toured throughout the US and abroad. She has performed at festivals, including the Hub City Jazz Festival outside New York City, on stages with Latin jazz greats Tito Puente Jr and Celia Cruz. She has even inspired audiences with her formidable courage at major sporting events such as the Ericsson Open (the only female artist), the Miami Marathon and national dates for NASCAR. The multiple award-winning, critically acclaimed 'Vintage' LP garnered her interview requests and airplay in US, Canada, Europe, South America and Africa with standing ovation and sold out live performances.

A passionate educator as well as a humanitarian, Katherine has dedicated herself throughout her career to giving back. She has educated students across the nation and taught piano, musical theatre and jazz voice at several universities. She served for two consecutive years as Celebrity Voice Judge for the Los Angeles Music Center's Annual Spotlight Awards. In addition to creating award-winning spoken word poetry, she is a published author and the founder of the charitable initiative Music for Peace International. She holds a BM Degree with highest honors from Boston's acclaimed Berklee College of Music, and her MM from the University of Miami Frost School of Music.

Including Four-Time Grammy Nominee Denny Jiosa on guitar and a world-class band, "People" is one of Farnham's all time favorite songs. Silverstone again captured the essence of her latest work calling her effort...'a triumph'. Against all odds, Farnham delivered yet again and has made it clear that she's going all the way.
